Geting Serious - Getting The Right Gear
Once I decided I was serious and was actually going to be putting the miles on, I knew I had to get the proper gear. I did some research on what I needed, what was worth spending the money on and what was a treat vs needed.
I chose to get a few new things and went shopping:
- New pair of Mizuno sneakers. The felt good and have been great so far. I also bought quality shorts and shirts. Boy do they make a big difference - anything is better than cotton shirts.
- I knew I had to track my progress. Being competitive with others and myself, I HAD to have a way to measure my distance, time, etc. I found the Garmin ForeRunner 205 to be absolutely awesome. It's a GPS the size of a watch and measures time, distance, pace, and course. It comes with some cool software and automatically links up to Motion Based to sync up your results and map the routes on Google Maps and Google Earth
- Last thing I needed to do was get informed. I bought a great book called Marathoning for Mortals
That should do, you will also want a good pair of sunglasses and socks too.
