Ready for my first marathon
Submitted by soleman on Fri, 11/14/2008 - 12:28pm.Its Friday before my first marathon (on Sunday) and I feel really good. Its been 6 months since I started, but it seems like the time has flown by. I've definately got anxiety, but feeel well prepared in spite of having a sore back last week.
I was able to get to the chiropractor in enough time to get some good adjustments and recover, while still getting my normal running in.
On the Road Training
Submitted by soleman on Mon, 11/03/2008 - 8:56pm.I've been a little quiet for the last couple weeks. Had a lot on my plate to prepare for the marathon on Nov 16.
After running 16 miles and getting leg cramps, I was concerned and did some more research so I could be prepared for my 18 miler. I thought I was in good shape while I was running my 18 miles, then on mile 15 my legs started cramping again. I kept pushing it, but at mile 17 I hit a wall. I was really bummed, and it affected me since I only had 1 long run left in my schedule and it was a 20 miler and I realized "on the road training" was running out.
The decision to run my first marathon
Submitted by soleman on Wed, 08/27/2008 - 1:57pm.After some time of sticking with my running program, I did a lot of research and soul searching before I could really fully commit.
Some of the things I took into consideration was the time and physical commitment it would take to follow through and run the full 26.2 miles. I searched the web and talked to several people I know that had run marathons (or do). The more I searched, the more I found that many 'normal' people have and do run marathons. I didn't have to be a power marathoner to run if I set realiztic goals for myself.
It's not pretty, but it's a finish and a beginning
Submitted by soleman on Mon, 08/25/2008 - 11:30am.I've always run over the years, but never really took it more serious than exercise and a way to reduce stress. That all changed this year when I ran my first ‘relay’ “Beach-to-Bay” marathon in Corpus Christi TX in mid-May 2008. Beach to Bay was a ton of fun and it gave me the bug to take my running to a new level and get more serious.
